Recent work explores the dynamic relationship between the human body and new technologies, specifically everyday communication devices from the past and present. I interpret these objects as powerful carriers of paradigm shifts occurring within our culture. Our interaction with these hand - held devices, from the simplicity of a quill to the complexity of a computer, initiates new ways of connecting and conceiving being human." Julie Bartholomew is a Sydney based craft/artist and lecturer and has exhibited extensively in the past 10 years. While her work focuses on innovative ceramic practice, it maintains a strong connection with her traditional training as a potter, its processes and skills. In 1998 she completed her Master of Visual Arts at Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney and was also awarded a New Work Grant from the Visual Arts and Craft Fund of the Australia Council. A solo exhibition entitled "Spin" was presented by the Object Galleries, Customs House, Circular Quay in 1999. Bartholomew has undertaken residencies in Australia and abroad and her work has been published in numerous art magazines. |
