PORCELAIN - With these pots I aim to accentuate the softness of freshly thrown clay. Forms are often altered and turning is kept to a minimum to encourage the qualities of throwing and an immediacy to them. Any decoration is carried out while the pot is still on the wheel, and includes simple indentations or broad sweeps of porcelain slip. The glazes are subtle and carefully developed to compliment the forms. WOOD FIRED SALT-GLAZE - I make these pots with a similar aesthetic to the porcelain, though due to the qualities of the clay and firing they have a rich earthy robustness. Pots often have just one slip on them allowing the flames, ash and salt free reign to make their marks. |
