I’m interested in the ambivalence between natural and industrial objects: at times a curve or a glaze texture and colour may echo the fullness of a gourd, or a piece of ripe fruit, while its purity of line might equally evoke the sleekness of an industrial object. I throw with porcellaneous clays which I sometimes cut and reform to make new shapes. I use this type of clay because of its hard-fired surface, sharpness of detail, and good colour development. Recent exhibition pieces have focussed on exploring inherent sculptural relationships in trios. Commissions are taken for larger jars and urns, as well as site-specific works. These have recently included 6 related large urns for the Royce Hotel, Melbourne. For further information, a cd rom based catalogue is available on request (for Microsoft Office users). |
