The Australian Ceramics Association Email Discussion
List aims to facilitate direct discussion amongst Association members
and other site visitors. You may have a technical question (or an answer);
you might want to trace the maker or origins of a favourite ceramic
piece; you may have some news to share or an issue to raise; you may
be seeking a studio employment opportunity in Australia. If so, this
Discussion List is for you.
Use it to post your questions, enquiries and replies.
Joining is free and participation will enable you to draw on the collected
wisdom of those similarly interested in Australian Ceramics.

Discussion list FAQ
Who reads my replies?
When you reply to a list message that you have received
with your daily emails, you are not replying directly to the sender
- you are sending the message to the whole list, all 400(+) of those
who have subscribed thus far. Think of it as a big party line where
everyone listens in to every conversation.
Can I reply to someone from the list privately?
If you want to reply to someone directly (off-list)
ie you don't want everyone to read your message, you have to manually
put their address into a new message.
Is their an etiquette regarding lists like this?
Yes - in order to preserve clarity and efficiency
it pays to never quote the entire original message (or digest!) back
to the list. If you keep doing it over and over it just increases the
size of the messages and eventually makes them unreadable. Learn how
to work with your email program and quote selectively in your replies
by editing out all the rubbish in the header and footer - then edit
out all in the message that you don't want to address. Try to keep the
language and postings family friendly. Don't reply to a digest without
changing the subject to match that of the individual message you are
responding to.
It is also very important to send all emails to the
list in plain text only. This is
for the benefit of those subscribers who receive the list via digest
(once daily), if the message is sent with coloured text or backgrounds
it appears as lengthy code - not as the sender intended. So make
sure your email software is set to send emails as plain text.
How do I get off the list?
All the information you need to post to the list,
be taken off the list, or switch mode is included with every message
(at the top). Or you can send an 'unsubscribe' submission using the
form on the ACA website. Please don't send unsubscribe notices
to the list.
Finally most of all have fun and enjoy trying out this
new medium, use it to communicate messages about events etc, to ask
technical questions (any questions for that matter) just to say hello
and realise that there are a lot of others just like you out there in
Australia and beyond...
