JAC 59/2 Launch on Zoom, 4 August 2020

TACA Board met on Thursday 6 August 2020 on the Zoom platform.

Bookkeeping and accounting for the organisation has been handed over to a contracted service. As part of this process we have reviewed, updated and streamlined our financial administration.

We said farewell to part-time staff member Rachael Hegh in July. Rachael had been with TACA for six years, contributing to office administration and bookkeeping. We thank Rachael for her work and wish her every success for her future direction.

The organisation is in good financial health after an excellent result for the 2019–2020 financial year. We have approved the budget for the 2020–2021 financial year, cautiously taking into account a possible downturn due to the pandemic.

Filming of Series 3 of the Online Masterclasses in Melbourne has been postponed due to travel restrictions. Resources previously allocated to support projects in line with the Strategic Plan, such as rebuilding the website and the Australian Design Centre travelling exhibition partnership, are in place and further resources are allocated to develop other projects such as the communications plan and for staff professional development.

Another successful JAC launch was held on 4 August on Zoom with 45 participants. Featured artists in the July issue gave further depth and insight into their experience, with broad discussions around kilns, safety and residencies.

We are working through our goals in the Strategic Plan. A summary of the Strategic Plan was printed in the latest JAC and we are progressing towards achieving all of our first-year goals. In the past month Board directors gave individual appraisals of their board experience which has led to recommendations to further improve the workings of the Board. We have a number of working groups occupied with progressing particular projects or specific goals. This includes communication, exhibitions, financial and scholarship/mentorship groups. The groups usually consist of 2 or 3 Directors and the Executive Officer and are tasked with researching and developing ideas between meetings. It has been productive to include members from outside the board to participate in the working groups, contributing other perspectives.

TACA office has reviewed its staff needs and is to create a new position for an Administrative Assistant of 7 hours a week. This is currently being advertised.

The date for the 2020 AGM has been set for Thursday 8 October from 7-9 pm. It will be held via Zoom. Nominations for Directors must be in 14 days prior to the meeting.

The date of the next Board meeting is Thursday 10 September 2020 via Zoom.
