TACA BOARD NEWS JUNE 2021

TACA Board met on 10 June 2021 on the Zoom platform.

We discussed our next TACA member survey, as it’s a valuable way to gain feedback and target our services to meet our members’ needs. We are particularly interested in also holding a non-member survey to understand how we may attract their interest. Our new website has the possibility for a members-only login area and we are investigating how this service may offer content and resources that may be useful.

TACA Board approved the increase in price of The Journal of Australian Ceramics to cover increased production and postage costs. TACA Membership fees have therefore also increased as membership includes a JAC subscription.

Mike Hall proposed that we activate the awarding of Honorary and Life Memberships as noted in TACA's constitution. TACA Board thinks that the wording in the constitution needs a small adjustment for Section 13 Classes of Member clause (a)The Directors may invite [DELETE 'members' and change to] a person or persons to be Honorary Members of the company without payment and for the period and on the conditions the Directors determine.’

We will formally notify members of our proposed change to the constitution prior to TACA's AGM in September/October 2021, so that a vote can be taken at that meeting. TACA Board will also consider the criteria and process by which the awards will be given, within the constitutional guidelines.

It’s pleasing that we have had good take up of our Graduate to Studio Membership Program, a new way to support emerging makers by connecting them with TACA services and community through one year of free membership. Thanks go to Tracey Mitchell for compiling our website ‘Ceramic Competitions Around the World’ list.

Vicki Grima (TACA EO) presented various statistics for TACA Board to consider. Did you know that our membership in NSW is twice that of Victoria and greatly more than in other states and territories? We aim to drill down into these statistics in the future to understand them further. We also know that around 60% of TACA members actively engage with Touch Clay Weekly enews, an excellent statistic considering this is the most common and regular way for us to communicate to our members.

CERAMIX, TACA's exhibition in partnership with MAG&M, has come to an end with great success in public interest and attendance. Congratulations again to all involved particularly guest curator Sophia Cai, Katherine Roberts (MAG&M), Vicki Grima and the 28 artists from around the country.

The board has approved funding and resources to develop a webinar series, an outcome of the research and discussion undertaken by the Mentorship Working Group. The idea is for various panels of experienced artists/ practitioners to give insight into different aspects of establishing a ceramic practice. We’ll keep you updated!

We’re tracking well on our Strategic Plan yearly goals and take direction for future projects from its detail and depth.

The next board meeting is Thursday 5 August, 2–5pm.

We welcome new TACA members who joined between 6 May and 30 June 2021:
