GUEST CURATOR: Expressions of Interest

The Australian Ceramics Association 2027 Members’ Exhibition
Venue: Manly Art Gallery & Museum, Manly NSW
Date of exhibition: 16 April – 30 May 2027
Closing date for Guest Curator Expressions of Interest: 1 September 2025

Guest Curator exhibition proposal: to develop a theme that highlights the diversity and ingenuity of ceramic expression in Australia, reflecting current trends and ideas.

The Australian Ceramics Association (TACA), in partnership with Manly Art Gallery & Museum (MAG&M), invites expressions of interest from Australian-based curators to guest curate the TACA members’ exhibition at MAG&M in Sydney in April 2027. This is a national call-out, curators around the country are encouraged to apply. The successful curator will work (independently on a contract basis) to develop the exhibition in consultation with a TACA Board representative, TACA’s Chief Executive Officer, and MAG&M Senior Curator and Gallery Director. The Guest Curator will advise and liaise on all aspects of the project, including exhibition title, exhibition rationale, exhibition design, artist call-out, selection of artists (with MAG&M & TACA), and publicity. The Guest Curator will write a catalogue essay and give a public talk to support the exhibition.

The project period for the Guest Curator will extend through 20 months, from October 2025 to May 2027.

The Guest Curator: Expressions of Interest should be a general statement covering the approach and theme the curator would bring to develop this TACA Members’ Exhibition (approx. 500 words in length), accompanied by a CV of up to 2 pages detailing previous projects and demonstrating the ability to work in consultation with key stakeholders.

The EOI should also include a brief project plan acknowledging key milestones and dates (as listed above). An appreciation of TACA’s commitment to inclusivity, diversity and professionalism is expected. MAG&M’s adherence to best museum practice in the high level delivery of exhibitions (concept, artworks and design) is to be upheld. As part of the selection process, Guest Curator candidates may be asked to elaborate on their ideas to the TACA Board, CEO and MAG&M Gallery Director and Senior Curator by email or in person.

Guest Curator remuneration: $3,500
Additional stipend for curator attendance at exhibition install and opening: $1,800

Candidates are encouraged to contact Diamando Koutsellis, TACA’s Chief Executive Officer, with questions or to discuss their expression of interest before submission.
