Clay & Spirit: Peter Thompson by Ian Whittaker

Clay & Spirit: Peter Thompson by Ian Whittaker

Peter Thompson is an artist-potter living in Kuranda, in the Cairns hinterland, in Far North Queensland, Australia. ‘Five Treasures’, the name of his pottery workshop, refers to the five elements recognised by ancient Taoist philosophy: earth, wind, fire, water and the void. Thompson produces high temperature wood fired ceramics. He makes sculptural vessels, figurative sculpture and functional ware. He often incorporates local raw materials in his clay bodies and glazes. Presented here for the first time is a retrospective selection of his work, along with detailed insights into his back story, studio practice and philosophy.
